Games Development: Oculus Rift

Games Development students at Wiltshire College Trowbridge are among some of the first to use a virtual reality headset that lets players step inside their favourite games and virtual worlds.

Level 3 students got the chance to test out the Oculus Rift, which has been purchased by the College, and experience a variety of scenarios including a roller coaster ride.

They enjoyed it so much that they are now setting up an extra-curricular club to develop work for it.

Games Development tutor Frazer McLeod said: “The kit that we bought came out at the end of last year and there has been a long waiting list to buy it.

“We are one of the first colleges to use it, certainly at Level 3, and the students love it.

“I am really keen to utilise it in sessions as it has a great deal of potential to generate innovative work from our learners.”

The technology provides a more immersive gaming experience as users become part of the gaming world from a new perspective.

One of the first projects for the students is to develop an interactive version of the Trowbridge campus.
